Where you want to go and how you're going to get there...

What are Life Coaching and Motivational Interviewing?
Motivational interviewing works to activate clients' own motivations for change and adherence to their new behaviours. Its philosphy and principles are contained within the style of coaching we utilize, and this coaching style adds to the already robust intervention modality called Motivational Interviewing.  Therefore, when we refer to "coaching", we actually refer to both Motivational Interviewing and Coaching.  Coaching is a unique profession that has been growing in significance over the last ten years or so. Where therapy tends to look backward to examine why you are the way you are, then to diagnose for productive therapy, coaching is directed toward where you are today, where you want to go and how you’re going to get there. As Douglas Everett said so eloquently, “there are some people who live in a dream world; and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other”. In so many aspects of our lives we often assume we are doing what we want to do and/or we are being who we really want to be. We are alive so we assume we must be living our lives fully. More often than not, this is not the case because it’s very difficult for each of us to look into our own life-mirror. As coaches, we work with you to hold up that mirror and even more, we strive to find your direction, your passions and what it is that really fulfills your life. To extend the mirror metaphor, it’s almost as though we each drive our life’s car with a huge blind spot. Our role as coaches is to tune-up your life, to help you see through the blind spots in your life in a safe and supportive environment. In every instance in the coaching relationship, the focus is on you and you alone - you are the person who knows you best and who knows what it is you need. In essence, we work with you to tune up your life.

In today’s world, it’s quite common to seek a personal trainer or expert to help you work toward your physical fitness goals. Imagine having a personal trainer to help you identify and work toward your life goals. As life coaches, we provides that exact service. Consider this real-life scenario: Tricia was an extremely busy professional businessperson, married with two young children. A high achiever by nature, she worked hard to become successful in her career and to all outward appearances, she had all the hallmarks of success – university degrees, a respected executive position, a very fine home, new cars, the proverbial whole nine yards. And yet deep within her was a longing for something more meaningful, perhaps more time to relax and enjoy her life, something intangible but so missing in her busy, successful life. Tricia hired a life coach who worked with her to help her find what her values were and how she could balance her professional career with her heartfelt desire to spend more time with her family and friends. For anyone, having a coach is a significant first step toward determining what you really want out of life and how to achieve what you want with full satisfaction.

Possibilities Life Coaching is our business and it’s a business designed with two purposes in mind.  We are committed to helping health professionals utilize the powerful tools of Motivational Interviewing and Coaching in their work with clients/patients (see information under the "workshops" tab at the top of this page).  We are also passionate about helping individuals explore the infinite possibilities in life choices, decisions and directions toward truly living in a more fulfilling way. Coaching can be applied to your work/business life or to your non-work, personal life since both are integral aspects of who you are and who you want to become. The first step is easy: contact Jennifer or Don for a free, no obligation sample session. This complimentary session lasts for about 30 minutes and it is the very best way to learn what coaching is like and how much it enriches you and brings clarity to your life. After that session, it is completely up to you if you wish to continue or not. If you do, we can discuss the process further. Most often, we arrange to talk for a couple of hours to get to know who you are and to design how and when you want the coaching to take place; in essence, we will customize coaching to your needs. Our coaching sessions last 30-40 minutes, once a week, 3 times per month. We will also discuss our fees with you inclusive of convenient Visa or MasterCard payment options. Our experiences in coaching, coaching research, and being coached unquestionably confirms that your investment in life coaching will be one of the most important investments you have ever made in yourself. Most coaching takes place over the phone, so it’s comfortable for you and it can be done almost anywhere you need to be. Will Rogers once said, “why not go out on a limb, that’s where the fruit is”. We invite you to come out on a limb and contact us for a complimentary, no obligation coaching session.
